Key Policies Announced, with Implications for Australian Investors:

Reciprocal Tariffs
The United States will introduce tariffs that either match or partially mirror those imposed by other countries. Examples include:

  • Automobiles: A 25% tariff on foreign-made vehicles (up from the previous 2.5%).
  • Agriculture: Targeted retaliation against countries like Canada, which imposes 250–300% tariffs on U.S. dairy, and Australia, which bans U.S. beef imports.
  • Baseline Minimum: A new 10% tariff floor applied across all imports.
  • “Kind Reciprocal” Approach: Where full mirroring is impractical, the U.S. will levy roughly 50% of the tariff rate imposed by the foreign country. For instance, Australia’s 50–53% tariff on U.S. rice would be met with approximately 25–27% in return.

Onshoring Incentives
The policy shift is designed to push companies such as Apple, TSMC, and major automakers to repatriate manufacturing activities to the U.S. and sidestep rising import costs.

Implications for Australian Investors:

Commodities & Agriculture

  • Beef: Australia’s $3 billion annual beef exports to the U.S. could face increased barriers if retaliatory measures escalate.
  • Minerals: Critical resources such as lithium and rare earths may be affected if tariffs interfere with established supply chains.

Trade-Exposed Sectors

  • Automotive/Manufacturing: Australian exporters or firms relying on U.S. components may incur higher operational costs.
  • Pharma & Tech: Businesses with U.S. dependency may experience margin compression due to protectionist pricing pressures.

ASX-Listed Companies

  • Miners (BHP, RIO): Exposure to commodity demand may cause share price volatility amid broader trade tensions.
  • Healthcare (CSL): Potential vulnerability to U.S. drug pricing and tariff-linked policy changes.

Currency & Hedging

  • AUD/USD Outlook: The Australian dollar could weaken if key exports to the U.S. decline under retaliatory conditions.
  • Portfolio Tactics: Investors may consider currency hedging for portfolios with U.S. exposure.

Strategic Considerations:

  • Diversification: Investors should assess portfolio weightings to U.S.-facing sectors and explore opportunities in ASEAN or EU markets.
  • Domestic Plays: Local infrastructure and defence-focused firms (e.g., Downer, Austal) might gain from national production initiatives.
  • Watchlists: Close attention is warranted for ASX companies with substantial U.S.-derived revenue, such as ResMed and James Hardie.

Market Response: ASX Reacts

The S&P/ASX 200 closed 74.8 points lower, down 0.94%, as investors digested the implications of the U.S. tariff escalation.

Several stocks sharply underperformed, presumed to be among the hardest hit by potential U.S. trade retaliation:

  • Cettire (CTT): -14.5%
  • Ansell (ANN): -14.3%
  • Breville Group (BRG): -4.97%

By contrast, James Hardie Industries (JHX), with its significant U.S.-based production, rose 2.75%, viewed as a potential beneficiary of localised manufacturing trends in the U.S.

Meanwhile, analysts revised commodity price forecasts and valuations for key mining names, triggering notable declines:

  • Liontown Resources (LTR): -12.5%
  • Mineral Resources (MIN): -9.5%
  • Pilbara Minerals (PLS): -6.8%
  • Whitehaven Coal (WHC): -7.6%

Sector moves reflected defensive positioning. Consumer Staples gained 1.27%, while Information Technology (-2.87%) and Energy (-2.72%) saw heavy selling. The AUD/USD edged lower to 0.6293, down 0.11%, as risk sentiment deteriorated.

Investors will now closely monitor overnight U.S. market developments, especially in the NASDAQ and broader indices, to gauge whether global sentiment stabilises—or slides further—under the weight of shifting trade dynamics.

thank you very much thank you nice crowd what a goodlook group of people well we have 0:17 some very very good news today and a lot of good things are happening for our country please sit 0:24 down my fellow Americans This is Liberation day waiting for a long 0:32 time April 2nd 2025 will forever be remembered as the day American industry 0:39 was Reborn the day America’s Destiny was reclaimed and the day that we began to 0:46 make America wealthy again going to make it wealthy good and 0:51 Wealthy for decades our country has been looted pillaged raped and plundered by 0:57 Nations near and far both friend and foe alike American Steel Workers Auto 1:03 Workers farmers and skilled Craftsmen we have a lot of them here with us today 1:08 they really suffered Gravely they watched in anguish as foreign leaders have stolen our jobs foreign cheaters 1:16 have ransacked our factories and foreign scavengers have torn apart our once 1:22 beautiful American dream we had an American dream that you don’t hear so much about you did four years ago and 1:28 you are now but you don’t too often and for many years and decades even you didn’t hear too much about our country 1:35 and its taxpayers have been ripped off for more than 50 years but it is not 1:40 going to happen anymore it’s not going to 1:47 happen in a few moments I will sign a historic executive order instituting 1:53 reciprocal tariffs on countries throughout the world reciprocal that means they do it us and we do it to them 2:02 very simple can’t get any simpler than 2:07 that this is one of the most important days in my opinion in American history 2:14 it’s our Declaration of economic independence for years hardworking 2:19 American citizens were forced to sit on the sidelines as other nations got rich 2:24 and Powerful much of it at our expense but now it’s our turn to prosper and in 2:30 so doing use trillions and trillions of dollars to reduce our taxes and pay down 2:36 our national debt and it’ll all happen very quickly with today’s action we are 2:41 finally going to be able to make America great again greater than ever 2:49 [Applause] before jobs and factories will come roaring back into our country and you 2:56 see it happening already we will supercharge our domestic industrial base 3:01 we will pry openen foreign markets and break down foreign trade barriers and 3:07 ultimately more production at home will mean stronger competition and lower prices for consumers this will be indeed 3:15 the Golden Age Of America it’s coming back we’re going to come back very 3:20 [Applause] strongly we’re pleased to be joined on 3:26 this momentous occasion by vice president J D van JD thank 3:31 you thank you thank you very where are you 3:37 JD no that’s that wasn’t too hard to find I was looking you know he likes to 3:44 take a lowkey attitude so usually be sit right in front he’s gaining a lot of confidence Mike is he and nearly my 3:51 entire cabinet is here as well as Speaker Mike Johnson who’s done an amazing 3:58 job you and with the great success we had last night in Florida we have uh a majority 4:06 of seven and Seven’s like a lot when we had it at one right you’ve done a 4:11 fantastic job and many of the members of the House and Senate are with US 4:16 senators congressmen thank you all for being with us we appreciate it for decades the United States slashed our 4:22 trade barriers on other countries while those Nations placed massive tariffs on 4:27 our products and created outrageous non-monetary barriers to decimate our Industries and 4:34 in many cases the non-monetary barriers were worse than the monetary ones they 4:39 manipulated their currency subsidized their exports stole our intellectual 4:44 property imposed exorbitant vat taxes to disadvantage our products adopted unfair 4:51 rules and Technical standards and created filthy pollution Havens they were absolutely filthy but they always 4:59 came to us and they said we’re violating we should pay for it it’s all detailed in a very big report by the US trade 5:07 representative on foreign trade barriers and I’ll just hold it up for you it’s 5:12 available and you don’t have to pay too much as I understand it you’ll pay nothing it’s a lot of work a lot of work 5:19 for something actually because it’s a special it’s a special book it’s very frankly it’s uh very upsetting when you 5:26 read it when you see what people have been doing to us for 30 years this all happened with no response from the 5:33 United States of America none whatsoever but those days are over let me offer 5:39 just a few examples of the vicious attacks our workers have faced for so 5:44 many years the United States charges other countries only a 2.4 tariff on 5:52 motorcycles meanwhile th Thailand and others are charging much higher prices 5:58 like 60% in India charges 70% Vietnam charges 75% and others are even higher 6:05 than that likewise until today the United States has for decades charged a 6:11 2.5 tariff think of that 2.5% on foreign made automobiles the 6:18 European Union charges us more than 10% tariffs and they have 20% Vats much much 6:25 higher India charges 70% and perhaps where first of all are the non-monetary 6:31 restrictions imposed by South Korea Japan and very many other nations as a 6:36 result of these colossal trade barriers 81% of the cars in South Korea are made 6:43 in South Korea 94% of the cars in Japan are made in Japan Toyota sells 1 million 6:51 foreign made automobiles into the United States and General Motors sells almost none Ford sells very little none of our 6:59 comp companies are allowed to go into other countries and I say that friend and Foe and in many cases the friend is 7:06 worse than the foe in terms of trade but such horrendous imbalances have devastated our industrial base and put 7:14 our national security at risk I don’t blame these other countries at all for 7:20 This calamity I blame former presidents and past leaders who weren’t doing their job they let it happen and they let it 7:26 happen to an extent that nobody can even believe that’s why effective at midnight we will impose a 25% tariff on All 7:33 Foreign made [Music] 7:39 automobiles thank you Brian I’d like to have you come up here for a second okay I just see him 7:47 sitting he’s been a a fan of ours and he understands this business a 7:52 lot better than the economist a lot better than anybody Brian say a few words please would you thank you m thank 7:58 you it’s a great honor to have you thanks thank you Mr President um I grew up just north of Detroit Michigan in 8:04 mome County uh known as the home of the Reagan democrats my first vote for 8:09 president was for Ronald Reagan I thought that was going to be the best president I ever saw in my lifetime 8:15 until Donald J Trump came along um I have watched my entire life I 8:22 have watched plant after plant after plant in Detroit and in the Metro Detroit area Clos there are now plants 8:30 sitting idle there are now plants that are underutilized and Donald Trump’s 8:35 policies are going to bring product back into those underutilized plants there’s going to be new investment there’s going 8:41 to be new plants built and the UAW members and I brought 20 of them with me 8:47 they’re sitting right over here we support Donald Trump’s policies on 8:52 tariffs 100% so Mr President we can’t thank you enough and in six months or a 8:59 year we’re going to begin to see the benefits I can’t wait to see what’s happening three or four years down the road thank you Mr 9:05 President so what a great guy he got it right from 9:10 the beginning he got it before almost anybody else this group over there they got it too and you know we won the state 9:18 of Michigan we won almost all of them but we won Michigan by a lot and I want 9:23 to just thank you all the Auto Workers were fantastic the teamsters were fantastic 9:29 everyone was pretty good I will tell you thank you very much I appreciate it you’re going to be uh very happy very 9:35 soon and uh you probably see what’s happening with all of the not only car companies but car companies in 9:42 particular see with uh all of the ones they’re moving they’re announcing day in 9:47 day out you’re seeing it nobody’s ever seen anything like that with today’s actions we’re also standing up for our 9:54 great farmers and ranchers who are brutalized by Nations all over the world with brutal 10:01 Iz Canada by the way imposes a 250 to 300% tariff on many of our dairy 10:08 products they do the first uh the first can of milk they do the first little 10:14 carton of milk at a very low price but after that it gets bad and then it gets up to 275 300% so when they’re figuring 10:22 what’s Canada charging they say oh about 2% 3% but take a look at what happens 10:28 down the road when you look a a little bit it’s not a pretty picture and we don’t like it and it’s not fair it’s not 10:33 fair to our Farmers it’s not fair to our country and uh with countries like 10:38 Canada you know we subsidize a lot of countries and keep them going and keep them in business in the case of Mexico 10:45 it’s 300 billion dollar a year in the case of Canada it’s close to $200 billion dollar a year and I say why are 10:53 we doing this why are we doing this I mean at what point do we say uh you got to work for yourself and you got it this 11:00 is why we have the big deficits this is why we have that uh amount of debt 11:05 that’s been placed on our heads over the last number of years and we’re really not taking it anymore through non-tariff 11:12 barriers the European Union bans Imports of most American poultry you understand 11:17 they say uh we want to send you our cars we want to send you everything but we’re not going to take anything that you have 11:24 Australia bands and they’re wonderful people and wonderful everything but they 11:29 ban American beef yet we imported $3 billion doar of Australian beef from 11:35 them just last year alone they won’t take any of our beef they don’t want it because they don’t want it to affect 11:40 their farmers and you know what I don’t blame them but we’re doing the same thing right now starting about midnight 11:46 tonight I would say and China charges American rice Farm 11:54 is an over quota it’s called a tariff rate of 65% South Korea charges 12:00 50 actually they charge different from 50% to 53% in Japan our friend charges a 700% 12:10 but that’s because they don’t want a selling rice and another thing who can blame them Madam Secretary agriculture 12:17 you great job you did on eggs by the way the egg prices came down 50% you got them down 50% once we got 12:24 involved they were going through the sky the egg prices they were going through the sky and 12:29 uh you did a fantastic job now we have lots of eggs and they’re much cheaper down about 59% now and they’re going 12:36 down further uh we charge 2.8% for so many things that other 12:42 countries are charging 200% 300% then 400% for if imposing tariffs and 12:49 protective barriers made Nations poor then every country on Earth would be racing to eliminate these policies and 12:56 China would be the first online they run a very strong country but uh they’re not first in line 13:04 and the American people are paying a very big price from 1789 to 13:12 1913 we were a tariff backed nation in the United States was proportionately 13:17 the wealthiest it has ever been so wealthy in fact that in the 1880s they established a commission to 13:24 decide what they were going to do with the vast sums of money they were collecting we were colle collecting so 13:29 much money so fast we didn’t know what to do with it isn’t that a nice problem to have what do you think Marco good 13:35 problem Marco would love that problem but uh we don’t have that problem 13:41 anymore but we’re not going to have it very much longer I will tell you but they collected so much money they 13:46 actually formed a commission to determine what they were going to do with the money who they were going to give it to and how much then in 1913 for 13:54 reasons unknown to mankind they established the income tax so that citizens rather than foreign countries 14:01 would start paying the money necessary to run our government then in 1929 it 14:06 all came to a very abrupt end with a Great Depression and it would have never happened if they had stayed with the 14:13 Tariff policy it would have been a much different story they tried to bring back tariffs to save our country but it was 14:21 gone it was gone it was too late nothing could have been done took years and years to get out of that depression far 14:28 longer than even FDR had that office right over there for a long period of 14:33 time the ramp system that’s rather intricate was built because of him and 14:38 every time you walk up you think of him and he did a great job in many ways but it lasted long Beyond his terms as you 14:45 know but it’s not too late any longer and we’re going to uh start being smart 14:52 and we’re going to start being very wealthy again we’re going to be wealthy as a country because they’ve taken so much of our wealth away from us we’re 14:59 not going to let that happen we truly can be very wealthy we can be so much wealthier than any country it’s not even 15:05 believable but we’re getting smart nearly a century later in the face of unrelenting economic Warfare the United 15:12 States can no longer continue with a policy of unilateral economic surrender 15:17 we cannot pay the deficits of Canada Mexico and so many other countries we used to do it we can’t do it anymore we 15:24 take care of countries all over the world we pay for their military we pay for everything they have to pay and then 15:31 when you want to cut back a little bit they get upset that you’re not taking care of them any longer but we have to take care of our people and we’re going 15:37 to take care of our people first and I’m sorry to say 15:44 that and today we’re standing up for the American worker and we are finally 15:50 putting America [Applause] 15:57 First in Sleepy Joe Biden’s last year in office the United States hemorrhaged 16:02 100,000 manufacturing jobs and the number was going through the roof at levels never seen before and our trade 16:10 deficit reached a record $1.2 trillion which is unheard of since the 16:17 beginning of NAFTA the worst trade deal ever made it was a horror show we I was able to termin it they all said you’d 16:23 never be able to get it out we had to get approval from Congress to get it terminated 16:29 we had to live with that deal it was the worst deal worst trade deal ever made by far but since the very beginning of 16:36 NAFTA our country lost 990,000 factories think of what that is 16:41 90,000 think about putting a map up and putting tax on you wouldn’t have enough room 90,000 I said is that possible we 16:49 had it checked four different times and it was actually somewhat higher than that and 5 million manufacturing jobs 16:55 were lost while racking up trade deficits of $1 19 trillion dollar that 17:02 was the worst trade deal ever made as a result of these gigantic losses foreign 17:07 Nations now own $26 trillion do more of American assets than American think of 17:13 this than the Americans own of their own foreign assets or other foreign assets 17:19 the United States can no longer produce enough antibiotics to treat our sick we 17:25 have a tremendous problem we have to go to foreign countries to treat our sick if anything ever happened from a war 17:30 standpoint we wouldn’t be able to do it we import virtually all of our computers 17:36 phones televisions and electronics we used to dominate the field and now we import it all from different countries a 17:43 single Shipyard in China now produces more ships every year than all of the 17:48 American shipyards combined think of that and it was a business that we used to dominate we used to dominate it 17:55 totally in short chronic trade deficits are no longer merely an economic problem they’re a National Emergency that 18:02 threatens our security and our very way of life it’s a very great threat to our country and for these reasons starting 18:09 tomorrow the United States will Implement reciprocal tariffs on other nations it’s been a long time since we 18:17 even thought of that we used to think about it a lot we didn’t think about it for many decades and you see what’s 18:24 happened for Nations that treat us badly we will calculate the combined risk of all their tariffs non-monetary barriers 18:31 and other forms of cheating and because we are being very kind we’re kind people 18:38 very kind you’re not so kind when you got ripped off with your salaries my 18:43 auto worker friends and my Teamster friends and all of the unions that 18:48 typically voted Democrat they’re not voting Democrat anymore because worker whether Union or non-worker they’re for 18:54 the Republicans now that’s what happened but will charge them approximately half of what they are and 19:02 have been charging us so the tariffs will be not a full reciprocal I could 19:09 have done that yes but it would have been tough for a lot of countries we didn’t want to do that I’d like to see 19:15 the chart if you have it could you bring it up Howard this is our great secretary 19:21 of Commerce Howard lutnick thanks so if you look at that China 19:30 first row China 67% that’s tariffs charged to the USA including currency 19:38 manipulation and trade barriers so 67% I think you can for the most part see it 19:44 those with good eyes with bad eyes we didn’t want to bring it’s very windy out here we didn’t want to bring out the big 19:49 charts because it had no chance of standing fortunately we came armed with a little smaller chart so 67% so we’re 19:58 going to be charging a discounted reciprocal Tariff of 34% I think in 20:04 other words they charge us we charge them we charge them less so how can anybody be upset they will be because we 20:10 never charge anybody anything but now we’re going to charge uh European Union they’re very 20:16 tough very very tough Traders uh you know you think of European Union very 20:21 friendly they rip us off it’s so sad to say it’s so pathetic 39% we’re going to 20:28 charge them 20% so we’re charging them essentially half Vietnam great negotiators great people they like me I 20:36 like them the problem is they charge us 90% we’re going to charge them 46% 20:42 tariff Taiwan where they make they took all of our computer chips and 20:47 semiconductors we used to be the King right we were everything we had all of it now we have almost none of it except 20:54 the biggest company is coming in they’re going to have we’re going to end up with almost 40% Le zelden working to get 20:59 their approvals and it’s an amazing company Mr way of one of the great 21:05 companies of the world actually they’re coming in from Taiwan and they’re going to build one of the biggest plants in 21:10 the world maybe the biggest for that but 64% we’re going to charge them 32% Japan 21:17 uh very very tough uh great people and again I don’t blame the people for doing 21:22 it it’s I think they’re very smart into do it I blame the people that sat right at that Oval Office right over there 21:28 right the Resolute desk or whichever desk they chose Japan 46% they would charge us 46% 21:36 and much higher for certain items like cars you know little items like cars 46% 21:42 were charging them 24% India very very tough very very tough the Prime Minister 21:49 just left and he’s a great friend of mine but I said you’re a friend of mine but you’re not be treating us right they 21:55 charge us 52% you have to understand we charge almost nothing for years and years and decades and it was only uh 22:03 seven years ago when I came in uh we started with China charge and we took in 22:08 hundreds of billions of dollars from China in tariffs and they understood 22:14 honestly president she understood he said look I understand and the other countries and they all understand we’re 22:21 going to have to go through a little tough love maybe but they all understand they’re ripping us off and they understood it uh prime minister 22:29 of Japan uh Shinzo was Shinzo ABI he was 22:34 a fantastic man he was unfortunately taken from us assassination but I went to him and I 22:40 said Shinzo we have to do something a trade is not fair he said I know that I know 22:47 that and he was a great gentleman he was uh a fantastic man but he understood 22:54 immediately what I was talking about I said Shinzo we have to do something he said I know that that and we worked out 23:00 a deal and it would have been a much better deal but frankly uh there were many years left on the deal that was 23:05 made previous to I getting there but it was it was something uh if you look at Switzerland 23:11 61% to 31% Indonesia Malaysia Cambodia oh look at Cambodia 23:18 97% we’re going to bring it down to 49 they made a fortune with the United States of America United Kingdom 10% and 23:26 we’ll go 10% so we’ll do the the same thing South Africa oh 60% 30% and 23:33 they’ve got some bad things going on in South Africa you know we’re paying them 23:39 billions of dollars and we cut the funding because a lot of bad things are happening in South Africa the fake news 23:44 ought to be looking at it they don’t want to report it Brazil 10% 10% 23:50 Bangladesh is 74% so you see what’s going on Pakistan 23:57 58% Sri Lanka 88% so what we’re doing is we’re taking 24:03 not the full we could take the full 88% thanks a lot he’s doing a very good job how’s he doing all 24:09 right I think you better take it with you it’s not going to last very long he’s going to put it it’s going to 24:15 follow you down with the wind I brought a hat just in case it got too windy but here would anybody like a 24:21 hat I’m giving I’m not giving it to a cabinet I’m giving it to the aut workers come here 24:28 [Applause] [Music] thank you fellas get it that’s it that’s 24:37 it they deserve it more than our cabinet our our cabinet has plenty of 24:43 hats but you see the you see the numbers the numbers are so disproportionate they’re so unfair at the same time we 24:50 will establish a minimum Baseline Tariff of 10% you notice that on the chart and 24:56 uh that’ll be on other countries to help rebuild our economy and to prevent cheating so we’re gonna have a minimum 25:02 of cheating and we’re going to be very severe on the people that at the gate that watch the tariffs and watch the 25:08 product coming in because there’s been a lot of uh lot of bad things happening at the gate because the money is so 25:14 enormous that you’re talking about there’s never been probably anything like it in terms of the enormity and 25:21 there are a lot of bad things happen at the people that do the check-in and they’re looking at 10year jail sentences 25:27 if they do play We’re going to treat them so good but if they cheat uh the repercussions are going to be extremely 25:33 strong foreign Nations will finally be asked to pay for the privilege of access 25:38 to our Market the biggest Market in the world we’re right now the biggest Market in the world we had a great country four 25:45 years ago in terms of the economics we were doubling up on China we were doing so well nobody was going to catch us but 25:52 so much of it slipped away over the last four years under Biden I campaigned on this policy through out last year and 25:59 today that promise was made and it was also a promise as you know that was kept 26:04 promises made Promises Kept to any company that objects to our 26:12 Common Sense reciprocal tars again reciprocal back and forth back and forth 26:19 and we would I call this kind reciprocal this is not full reciprocal this is kind 26:25 reciprocal but what we do is we cut it in half we charge them my answer is very 26:31 simple if they complain if you want your tariff rate to be zero then you build your product right here in America 26:37 because there is no tariff if you build your plant your product in America and we’ve seen companies coming 26:45 in like we’ve never seen before likewise to all of the foreign presidents Prime 26:50 Ministers kings queens ambassadors and everyone else who will soon be calling to ask for exemptions from these tariffs 26:58 I say terminate your own tariffs drop your barriers don’t manipulate your 27:04 currencies they manipulate their currencies like nobody can even believe which is a bad bad thing and very 27:11 devastating to us and start buying tens of billions of dollars of American Goods 27:16 tariffs give our country protection against those that would do US economic harm and many people were looking to do 27:23 as economic harm maybe not uh so obviously but uh they were doing 27:29 tremendous economic harm but even more importantly they will give us growth these terorists are going to give us 27:36 growth like you haven’t seen before and uh it’ll be something very special to watch I am so looking forward and Brian 27:43 it’s going to happen even faster than you said you know you might you might say but it’s already started it’s 27:49 already started Works already uh begun on plants all around the country and you see that is before these are Big Rich 27:57 companies uh we have $ 61 billion doll started uh on a big plant going up it’s 28:03 going to be announced over the next two days and they already started work many of these biggest the biggest companies 28:09 in the world they’ve committed to build build build we’re at to build build build Sir and they came here to see me 28:16 and they came wanted to know if they could have a press conference I do as many as I can I’m pretty busy trying to 28:21 stop Russia and Ukraine and the Middle East we got to stop that we got to stop the hooes which we we’re making 28:28 tremendous they like shooting ships down and out of the water seeking ships they get a kick out of it but they’re not 28:34 getting such a kick out of it now are they Mr secretary they’re not getting such a kick out of that now but uh here 28:42 just a short list of some of the companies that have already announced and committed to investment and this is 28:49 a company that built its factories and its plants in China apple is going to 28:55 spend 500 billion dollar they never spent money like that 29:01 here they’re going to build their plants here soft Bank open Ai and Oracle great 29:08 great companies are investing $500 billion doar almost immediately Nidia a 29:14 hot company is investing hundreds of billions of dollars they just announced tsmc the biggest most important company 29:22 in the world of chips from Taiwan uh with no investment from us is investing 29:28 200 billion and they said the reason was number one the election of November 5th and number two the tariffs they don’t 29:35 want to pay the tariffs and the way they’re not paying it is to build their plan here so we’re going to go from almost no percentage we used to have 29:42 100% of the chip market now it’s all in Taiwan almost all of it’s in Taiwan a couple of other countries but mostly in 29:48 Taiwan and uh think of it we had 100% we lost it because the people in that 29:54 office that didn’t do their job they allowed it to be stolen from us Johnson and Johnson great company $ 55 30:01 billion Eli Lily 27 billion meta is investing $500 billion 30:10 wow deac is investing 20 billion CMA CGM 30:16 $20 billion and then you have Merc and clarus stantis General Motors GE 30:22 Aerospace Honda Nissan hyund are all putting in billions and billions of 30:28 dollars and they’re committed 100% so and we have never had we’ve never had 30:33 and this is after two and a half months this is not this is after just a short this all took place as soon as we came 30:41 out with what everybody wanted to do you know I watched a gentleman today on television used to work with leak Coke a 30:48 very respected automobile person and he said you know I because they’re asking people they try and get as many negative 30:54 people they can but they can’t find them too much it’s pretty hard to find terms of what we’re doing especially when they 31:00 see all this investment they said so tell me what do you think of what Trump is doing from the automobile standpoint 31:06 he said I can’t believe it somebody is finally he’s an older guy real Pro 31:13 really top guy with leok he said I never thought I’d see the day when this would 31:18 happen where somebody had the courage to go and do what has to be done this is Transforming Our Nation our entire 31:25 nation is going to be transformed not only with with the cars but on every single other item that’s built we’re 31:32 going to become an industrial Powerhouse and he he said that so beautifully today in fact I’m going to find out I’m going 31:38 to get a tape and Bruce I’m going to get that tape and I’m going to send it to you out in Long Island and you’re going 31:44 to play it for the people and all your union workers and your non-union workers out there you got a pretty even 31:51 split but we have uh so far it looks like we’re going to have about $6 trillion dollar of Investments you 31:58 wouldn’t do that in years in this country over the last number of years $6 32:03 trillion dollar it’s and that’s going to be much higher by the end of the year and think of what $6 trillion dollar is 32:10 you wouldn’t have even a small percentage of that under this other system we’re going to be an entirely 32:16 different country and it’s going to be fantastic for the workers it’s going to be fantastic for everyone there will 32:22 never have been a transformation of a country like the transformation that’s already happening in the United United 32:28 States of America it’s an incredible thing to watch and it’s incredible to meet with the top people people that you 32:34 read about very wealthy people or people that are great managers and Executives 32:39 and presidents of big public companies and to watch the enthusiasm they have now that they didn’t have they gave up 32:45 on our country they went to foreign countries and they built companies are pouring into our country at levels never 32:52 seen before with jobs and money to follow and it’s uh really beautiful in the coming days there will be complaints 32:59 from the globalists and the outsourcers and special interests and the fake news always the fake news will always 33:05 complain but never forget every prediction our opponents made about trade for the last 30 years has been 33:12 proven totally wrong they were wrong about NAFTA they were wrong about China 33:18 they were wrong about the transpacific partnership which would have been a disaster if I didn’t terminate it if I 33:24 didn’t turn that terminate that United Auto Workers you would have had no jobs 33:30 in this country you would have had no jobs it was all going to other countries 33:37 in my first term they said tariffs would crash the economy instead we built the 33:42 greatest economy in the history of the world and again I have great respect for presidency of China great respect for 33:48 China but uh they were taking tremendous advantage of them of us and and I 33:54 commend them for that I say hey if you can get away with it that’s okay but uh you know they understand exactly what’s 34:02 happening and they probably most of them are saying it’s about time they did something but uh and they’re going to 34:07 fight and they’re going to fight fair everyone’s going to fight you know it’s like uh I I say to the leaders look you 34:12 got to take care of your country but we have to start taking care of our country now we can’t do what we’ve been doing for the last 50 years from the day of my 34:20 election the stock market went up in my first term 88% with NASDAQ going up 15 55% more 34:28 than any president has ever had in any term in office by 34:35 far and I think we’re going to blow that away and uh maybe the numbers won’t show 34:41 but I think they’re going to show much better than even those numbers but what you’re going to see is you’re going to see activity that empty dead sites 34:48 factories that are falling down those factories will be knocked down and they’re going to have brand new factories built in their place they’re 34:54 not only talking about renovating they’re talking about brand new the best anywhere in the world the biggest 35:00 anywhere in the world I have a friend who builds car plants and I said I want to see the biggest and the best he said 35:05 well we have to go to Mexico I said no I want to see it in the United States He said we’re not building them in the this 35:11 is a year and a half ago during the campaign he said we’re not building you’d have to go to Mexico when I was 35:17 starting to uh decide to run and I went to number one in the polls very rapidly I want to say I want to like uh let’s 35:24 say in the first in the first hour and then shortly thereafter it looked like I was going to win and the fake 35:31 news was saying oh no don’t do this what they don’t know is if I didn’t win they would have really been in trouble 35:37 because nobody wants to read them anyway but I tell you what when I uh when it looked like I was going to win I 35:44 announced that I was going to be doing exactly what we’re talking about today great consistency actually because I’ve 35:49 been talking about it for 40 years but because I saw what was happening 40 years ago if you look at my old speeches 35:56 when I was young very handsome my old speeches and that people 36:02 would say i”d be on a television show I’d be talking about how we were being ripped off by these countries I mean 36:07 nothing changes very much the only thing that Chang were the countries but nothing really changes but it you know 36:14 it’s why it’s such an honor it’s such an honor to be finally able to do this if 36:19 you look at China I took in hundreds of billions of dollars in my term hundreds 36:25 of billions they never paid 10 cents to any other president and yet they paid 36:31 hundreds of billions so much so that Biden couldn’t do anything they wanted to try and terminate it because he had a 36:38 very special relationship with China you know what the relationship was he had a 36:44 special but the numbers were so big the numbers were so big that they couldn’t 36:50 do it so they did ease it up they did things that they shouldn’t have done they made it a lot more comfortable for 36:57 them them but they couldn’t do it because the numbers were hundreds of billions of dollars and I did that and 37:04 uh we were on our way to doing something like incredible and then we had a very bad 37:09 election happen a very bad election a lot of bad things happened so when I said we got to do it again I said we 37:15 have to make it too big to rig and we made it too big to rig and we won in records and it was a Monumental 37:21 win and it was such an honor to see so many of you like Brian and your friends 37:27 uh here with us to celebrate and to more importantly celebrate what we’re doing because that wouldn’t be a full 37:33 celebration if we didn’t do this because this will be an entirely different country in a short period of time it’ll 37:39 be something the whole world will be talking about it the critics made the very tired predictions earlier this year 37:46 but in February core inflation dropped to the lowest rate in four years and the 37:51 price of eggs as you know just in a couple of in a month and a half we were there for four 37:58 weeks and the first week I got blamed for eggs I said I just got here they 38:04 said eggs have gone up at like 250% and you can’t get eggs and they 38:09 were going crazy and I said I just got here and then we uh we got to work on 38:17 eggs and we got to work on everything and our great secretary of agriculture you did a fantastic job Brook Rollins 38:24 she did a fantastic job and as I said before the price of eggs 38:29 dropped now 59% and they’re going down more and the availability is fantastic they were saying that for Easter please 38:36 don’t use eggs could you use plastic eggs I said we don’t want to do that we want to and you really came through it’s 38:42 amazing job thank you very much Brooke you did great but likewise an old-fashioned term that we use groceries 38:47 I used it on the campaign it’s such an oldfashioned term but a beautiful term groceries it sort of says a bag with 38:54 different things in it groceries went through the roof and I campaigned on that I talked about 39:00 the word groceries for a lot and energy costs now are down groceries are down 39:05 gasoline is way under $3 and people are beginning to be able to buy things and 39:10 live again we brought prices way down we created 10,000 already in a few weeks 39:16 new manufacturing jobs and it was uh that took place in one month numbers 39:21 that they haven’t seen in a long time we had virtually no inflation under my term we had virtually no inflation for 4 39:28 years but after transitioning over to Sleepy Joe it went from almost 39:33 non-existent to the highest in the history of our country they’re the highest inflation in the history of our 39:40 country brought up by energy and bad spending and bad policy and a lot of bad 39:45 things happened how about allowing millions and millions and millions of people to pour into our country with 39:51 open borders where the uh it’s so sad to see even now and I see our great 39:58 secretary of you have done stand up please Christie stand up Christy 40:06 gnome and Tom homman these people are doing a great 40:11 job but uh got them out at records we have problems with judges that don’t want them to go out they want 40:18 trenda and they want uh MS13 the most vicious gangs ever nobody’s ever seen 40:24 anything like it absolute killer gangs they kill people they don’t even and think about it and we put them out and 40:29 we have judges now radical left judges that want to they don’t want them to go out they want them to even be brought 40:35 back let’s bring them back you’ve done a fantastic job and please thank everybody Homeland Security thank everybody 40:41 appreciate it and we now have a border that’s uh 40:47 the best border that uh we’ve ever had even better than it was my first term my 40:52 first term we did good but this one we really specialized in we’ve done really well and uh we had records then we had 40:59 the with the best safest border four years ago we had the best border there ever was and now we have uh you’ve 41:06 actually matched it and done even better and we’re going to get it down the right way and we want people by the way to 41:11 come into our country but we want them to come in through a legal process we want them to come in Legally we need 41:18 more people we need people to run these plants and to help the Auto Workers and the teamsters and the non-union people 41:25 and everybody else but we need people on the farm and we’re going to let people come in but they want to come in we want them to 41:31 come in legally they have to have the capability of loving our country not people that hate our country we don’t want them in our country and now we’re 41:37 going to pass the largest tax cuts in American history and that’s where we’re 41:43 relying on Mike and John th and we will not cut Social Security 41:49 Medicare or Medicaid benefits and the Democrats will because if they got in 41:55 the entire economy would collapse this country was heading for a collapse under the people that you saw uh they were 42:03 horrible I think one of the reasons people like the job I have my highest approval rate is because I think they’re 42:09 comparing me to the worst Administration in the history of our country so I appreciate that at least but Speaker of 42:16 the House Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader appreciate it Mike John 42:21 th have been fantastic by the way but they’ve been working lessly on 42:28 taking the next step to pass the plan for our one big beautiful Bill i’ like 42:34 to name it that if you can one big be I made that statement about six months ago and everybody calls it one big beautiful 42:40 Bill and it will be that it’ll have everything the big tax cuts and every incentive there is and it’ll be uh 42:48 fantastic and by the way for the cars we’re asking for an interest deduction on a loan so if you build the car only 42:55 in America we do it Brian if the is not built in America you don’t get the interest rate deduction but if you build 43:02 the car in America if you buy a car if it’s built in America then uh you get an interest rate deduction tax deduction 43:09 and uh that’s a big thing that’s going to be a big thing I think that’s going to pay for itself very quickly that deduction never happened we’ve never had 43:16 anything like that before somebody said where did you get the idea because it’s so basic you would think that would have happened a long time ago it never did 43:23 and uh I’m very happy it didn’t because now I can didn’t say that was my idea but we’re going to get us closer to 43:32 the debt extension we have to get the debt extension pass and I know you’re going to be able to do that Mike and 43:38 it’s very important that you do that and all of the other things that the Senate budget plan gives us along with working 43:45 because I know they’re working together John and Mike and the two bills are going very well together we need to get 43:50 our shared priorities done including certain permanent tax cuts we want the tax cuts to be permanent spending cuts 43:57 energy and historic investments in defense border and so much more we’re covering everything these will be 44:05 phenomenal there’ll be no no bill like that’s going to straighten one bill is going to straighten out our country for 44:10 many many years to come and we said let’s just do it and let’s get it done and some guys will love it and some guys 44:17 will like it a little bit less because they’re not getting what they were exactly looking for but they’re getting 44:23 a lot they’ll never if we get this done it’ll be the most incredible bill ever passed in the history of our Congress 44:30 and Senate and congressmen the Senators and the congressmen many of whom are here today can will be very proud of 44:36 themselves I really believe that it’s going to set us on a whole new prosperous path we’re going to cut 44:43 spending and rightsize the budget back to where it should be we’re going to do that very 44:49 strongly thank you Rick thank you John thank you oh look look at all of our Senators over oh boy that’s a nice group 44:58 of people but I won’t like them so much if they don’t get this bill done that’s a great group in Congressman 45:05 thank you very much I appreciate it tremendous people the Senate plan is my complete and total support and the house 45:12 plan likewise is very similar they’re moving along pretty much at the same clip and as soon as you’re ready you’ll 45:18 show it to me and I’m sure it’ll have my support mik every Republican congressman and Senator must unify we have to unify 45:26 we can’t be separated we have to get it done we have to get absolutely everything we can and we have to take 45:32 care of the American people that’s the only thing that matters we have to take care of the American people first we 45:37 need to pass this bill immediately get it done including debt extension from 45:43 this day on we’re not going to let anyone tell us that American workers and families cannot have the future that 45:49 they deserve we’re going to produce the cars and ships chips airplanes minerals 45:55 and medicines that we need right here in America the pharmaceutical companies are 46:00 going to become roaring back they’re coming roaring back they’re all coming back to our country because if they 46:06 don’t they got a big tax to pay and if they do uh I’ll be very happy and you’re 46:11 going to be very happy and you’re going to be very safe we’re going to build our future with American hands with American 46:17 Heart American Steel and we’re going to build it with American Pride like we used to we’re approaching our 100th day 46:25 as president and if have been given credit by a lot of people actually even 46:31 some of the fake news can you believe it which in this case hopefully is in fake for having done more in that time than 46:39 any other Administration in the history of our country in the first 100 days I think we’ve had an amazing in terms of what 46:46 we’ve done what we’ve gotten accomplished like to see if we can get that war ended and 46:52 another uh war from not starting in the Middle East we have to get Russia 46:57 they’re losing 2,000 on average 2,500 people today young people soldiers 47:04 Russian think of that 2,500 through some days and but on 47:10 average probably over about a one week period it’s 2,712 they say they’re losing those 47:17 soldiers they’re dying they’re being decimated and they’re not from our 47:23 country but they’re from other countries but they’re human beings they’re from Russia they’re from Ukraine in this 47:29 period most of them and we’re going to get it stopped it’s a senseless war that would have never happened if I was 47:35 president and it shouldn’t be allowed to go on and I think we’re being given good 47:43 cooperation by Russia and by Ukraine but we have to get it stopped it’s Humanity 47:48 it’s Humanity it’s a terrible thing this will be a very uh big moment I think 47:54 you’re going to remember today it’s going to be uh free nation that we’re dealing with we’re going to have a very 47:59 free and beautiful Nation it’s going to be Liberation day in America and it’s 48:04 going to be a day that hopefully you’re going to look back in years to come and you’re going to say you know he was 48:09 right this has turned out to be one of the most important days in the history of our country God bless you and God 48:16 bless America thank you everybody thank you very much thank you thank you very much
