Marcus Aurelius, one of the last five good Roman emperors, believed that every individual has a purpose to fulfill. He constructed a series of autobiographical writings called the Meditations in which he offered key insights into finding one’s purpose and living a virtuous life. The first insight is to make the most of the present by serving it with virtue, as life is short and only the present is in our control. The second insight is to add value by sharing our unique gifts with others and helping them achieve their goals. The third insight is to ask oneself if they are happy and follow the right way to achieve an equable flow of happiness.
